Here it is: the conclusion, the comedown, the final piece of The Filth Element. The last hour of Woof is always a special one – that point in the evening where you’re too far gone to know better but don’t care anymore. You know you’re gonna go in to work late on Thursday, but it isn’t a big deal because there’s nowhere else, at that moment, you’d rather be. I saved some of our favorites for the last hour: LCD Soundsystem, Azealia Banks, The 2 Bears, Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers. The Filth Element represents one of my favorite nights with some of the greatest people I know. I’m very happy I was able to share, at least musically, what it’s all about. Thank you for listening and supporting! <3
Michael Carrera – The Filth Element – Part 5: Love
Day 4, Part 4 of the mix. By this time of the night at Woof, things are nuts: people everywhere doing who knows who, er, what; libations a plenty have making their rounds, adding fuel to the fire; and everyone feeling good and on their way to making whatever mistakes they’re gonna make for the night. Mine was thinking that I was still 22 and that since Jager smells like candy, it goes down like candy. Nope, wrong. So very wrong. Anyhoozle, harder beats, electro, some throwback tracks and a couple of Woof favorites. Tomorrow we conclude with Part 5: Love.

In Part 3, we start kicking things up a notch. By this time of the night at Woof, the room is packed with smiling faces, heads are bouncing and asses shaking. And oh, alcohol. We start off with some Indie Pop and head into Electro territory, playing some new tracks and some throwback favorites. Except a lot of vocals on this one.
Michael Carrera – The Filth Element – Part 3: Earth
Picking up where we left off in “Air,” the second mix in this series, “Water,” continues with the downtempo, disco vibe and starts adding some harder elements. Towards the end of the mix, we get into some LCD Soundsystem, one of our favorite artists at Woof. Towards the end of the mix, we head into some more indie and tech house territory. We’ll be back tomorrow with Part 3: Earth.

One of my current residencies is the monthly “Woof” in San Diego. What started off originally as a midweek late-night happy hour has turned into one of my favorite events to play. Great people, solid drinks, and the opportunity to use my 5 hour sets to go in some fun and unexpected directions. This past April, I was accidentally double booked and had to miss my first Woof in over a year. Rather than letting the boys in SD down, I recorded a special 5-hour mix for them last month. It’s split up into 5 parts with 1 part getting released every day! Here’s part 1:
Michael Carrera – The Filth Element – Part 1: Air
Originally recorded for and airing on QNation.FM on October 1st, 2010 – I’ve gotten a lot of requests to put this online. After getting clearance from the station to use it I decided to post it here to share with all of you. Much like EP 10, this one is all over the place: minimal, tech, electro, breaks, techno, house, tribal, classic Chicago house and some nu-disco. Wanted to keep it fun and interesting for the radio. Hope you enjoy! Big thanks to Shane Phoenix for the fun on-air interview & to all who tuned in with such great questions! Much love!
Michael Carrera – EP 14
Hey everyone! After a few months off from Sound Sessions – we’re back with all new shows. I recorded “The Return to Sound Sessions” broadcast and split it up into two separate episodes. I have gotten a lot of feedback on EP 8 (Late Night on Main) so I wanted to create a follow up mix – something mellower, heady, soulful that buils up into something a little harder and melodic. Here is part 2. It’s a little harder, darker than part 1 was/is. Hope you likee! Enjoy!

Michael Carrera – EP 12
Hey friends. Was mixing/listening to some new and old tracks a few weeks ago and hit the record button. Handed out a couple of copies to friends and they suggested I put it online. So, I did exactly that. ![]()
LOL Enjoy!
Email for tracklist.
Decided to stray from the usual genre format and go for a mix that had a little bit of everything on it. Download, listen, leave a comment! As always, thanks for your support!
Enjoy!
Hey everyone, sorry for the delay. Things have been a little crazy these last few months -life changes, unexpected trips, moving the studio. But, things are finally starting to settle down and gt back to normal, whatever that is.
As I begin to record new podcasts, I’ve decided to post some old mixes on here as well. This mix was recorded live in Los Angeles back in the early 2000′s (that still doesn’t roll off the tongue easily). The first in an ongoing series of mixes dedicated to house in its purest form. I’ll post the rest of the series, and new additions, in the upcoming months.
This CD was inspired by the house scene in LA. This was an amazing time in my life and in LA. Free, Gabba, the legendary late nights and early mornings of “Does Your Mama Know,” the birth of Deep on Sundays. This mix and its songs captures some wonderful memories for me: Dubtribe, Kings of Tomorrow, Masters at Work, my remix of Murk’s Every Now & Then, Deep Swing, Jamiroquai. This was a magical time for me, Los Angeles, and music – and I’m happy I get to share it with you. I hope you enjoy this walk down memory lane. Enjoy!
Hey everyone. Welcome to EP 8. This is one of those moments where everything just falls into place. I didn’t put any planning behind this mix – I just walked into the studio, slapped some headphones on, hit record and went for it. And I’m glad I did. Reminiscent of the mixes I use to drop at Milwaukee’s Park Bar3, there’s a lot of tribal Latin rhythms; deep soulful vocals; and some banging beats in here. No electro, no gimmicks, just pure house music. Some people call it getting back to basics; I call it getting back to house. And it feels good to be home. Thank you for your support. I hope you enjoy it.
For this podcast, I decided to dig out a mix I released a few years ago on CD. This is one my favorite mixes. Inspired by chic ultra lounges, it starts off with a slow, sexy vibe and then builds up from there. I play everything from downtempo trip hop to tech to tribal and bring in some acid house. Rounding out the mix, I end things with one of my favorite drum and bass tracks of all time. This is the kind of mix you put on when you just want to chill, whether you’re staying in for the night getting some loving, or just getting in the next morning from going out. Thanks for taking the time to listen… Enjoy!
Much love and respect!
